FAQ

What is bruxism?
Bruxism is a condition in which a person grinds or clenches their teeth. Bruxism may be mild. However, it can be frequent and severe enough to lead to headaches, damaged teeth and other problems. It’s important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism and to seek regular dental care. Signs and symptoms of bruxism may include:

  • Teeth grinding or clenching, which may be loud enough to awaken your sleep partner
  • Teeth that are worn down, flattened, fractured or chipped
  • Worn tooth enamel, exposing deeper layers of your tooth
  • Increased tooth sensitivity
  • Jaw pain or tightness in your jaw muscles, tired jaw muscles
  • Headache
  • Chronic facial pain

How is the LunaGuard® different from other conventional bite guards?
The LunaGuard® differs in many ways from conventional bite guards.

  • The LunaGuard® is much thinner than conventional bite guards (1.6 mm)
  • It is made of a unique, super strong thermoplastic material for maximum durability, featuring Absorb-X™ Technology which helps absorb and diffuse grinding forces
  • Perforations ease the molding process and aid in conforming to the unique contours of your teeth, and also allow for a more natural flow of saliva
  • It can be remolded (up to 20 times) if you do not get the exact fit you want during the first fitting

How do I clean my LunaGuard®?
Gently clean the LunaGuard® with a mild soap and lukewarm water, or with a toothbrush and non-whitening toothpaste. Thoroughly rinse and dry before storing in the convenient storage case. Store your dental guard at room temperature under dry conditions.

How long will the LunaGuard® last?
You can use the LunaGuard® for up to 180 days if you clean it regularly. Some users like to replace their bite guard every 90 days as a matter of personal preference.

After my first use, while removing my LunaGuard®, I noticed it felt a bit too tight. Otherwise, the fit is great. Is there a simple way to loosen up my LunaGuard just a bit?
After your first use, if you feel your LunaGuard® is too tight, it can be loosened slightly by resubmerging it in 160ºF (71ºC) water for no longer than 2 to 3 seconds and repeating Step 6 of the fitting directions.

How many times can I re-form the LunaGuard®, if necessary?
If you are careful and do not over stretch the LunaGuard® material during fitting, you can re-form the product up to 20 times to get a perfect fit.

What do I do if my jaw or bite feels out of alignment or if I experience jaw pain after wearing the LunaGuard®?
If your jaw or bite continuously feels out of alignment or you experience jaw pain after using the LunaGuard® consult with your dentist or oral care professional.

Can I wear the LunaGuard® with braces?
You can use the LunaGuard® if you have braces. But, you must have the LunaGuard® fitted by your orthodontist or dentist. Do not attempt to fit it yourself.

Is the LunaGuard® made with methyl methacrylate (MMA), bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), latex or phthalates?
No. The LunaGuard® is not made with methyl methacrylate (MMA), bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), latex or phthalates.

What is the LunaGuard® Guarantee?
The LunaGuard® is guaranteed for durability for 180 days from date of purchase. If during this time you chew through, wear out, tear, or destroy your LunaGuard® through normal use, please send it to us with the original receipt and an explanation of your experience and we will replace it with a new one.

Where is the LunaGuard® Nighttime Dental Guard made?
This bite guard is made in the USA.

Can I cut/trim the LunaGuard® to make it shorter in length?
We recommend against cutting the guard down in size. Cutting the dental guard will also void the warranty.

Can I use this on my lower teeth instead of on my top teeth?
Yes. It will protect just as well on the bottom or top teeth. Note: Some users find that the bite guard snaps into place and stays more secure on the top teeth, as opposed to the bottom teeth. We recommend using it on the top teeth.

The LunaGuard® doesn’t reach/cover all of my rear teeth. Will those teeth still be protected from grinding and clenching?
Yes. The LunaGuard® Nighttime Dental Guard is designed to fit most mouth sizes and not be so large or long that it causes issues with gagging. In its current size, the guard should provide/maintain a gap that prevents any potential uncovered teeth in the rear of the mouth (teeth that aren’t covered by the guard) from touching.

Can I use the LunaGuard® if I have Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome?
Yes. The Lunaguard® is perfectly safe to use if you suffer from TMJ. While not specifically indicated to treat TMJ, the Lunaguard® will help protect teeth from the forces of bruxism (grinding or clenching of the teeth).
